Ciro Giacomelli graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Ancient Literature in 2011 from the University of Padua, achieving top marks with honors. He continued his studies at the same institution, earning a Master’s degree in Classical Literature and Ancient History in 2014, again with top marks and honors. In 2014, he was admitted to the PhD program (XXX cycle) as the top-ranked candidate in the selection process. His doctoral studies included a co-tutorship agreement with the École Pratique des Hautes Études, under the supervision of Margherita Losacco (Padua) and Brigitte Mondrain (Paris). In March 2018, he earned a joint doctoral degree with honors, supported by a scholarship awarded through a competitive selection by the Université Italo-Française in Turin.
From 2018 to 2020, he held a postdoctoral research position at the Department of Historical, Geographical, and Antiquity Sciences at the University of Padua, working on the research project “Between Science and Wonder”: The Pseudo-Aristotelian De mirabilibus auscultationibus in the Greek Paradoxographical Tradition (Scientific Supervisor: Margherita Losacco).
From 2018 to 2021, he collaborated with the project “Commentaria in Aristotelem Graeca et Byzantina” at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. His contributions included over 100 codicological descriptions of Aristotelian manuscripts preserved in Italian libraries (notably at the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice) and the critical edition of unpublished scholia on the Parva Naturalia.
Since June 2022, he has been a Researcher in Classical Philology (in Tenure Track, as of December 2024) at the same department. As of October 7, 2022, he has held the National Scientific Qualification to serve as Associate Professor in the same academic field, valid for eleven years.
