In 1997 Paola Degli Esposti obtained her Ph.D, degree at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan. She was afterwards awarded the Giovanni Calendoli scholarship from 1999 to 2003 at the University of Padua. Besides several translations, her research activity has led her to publish essays on modern stage direction and nineteenth century theatre - and other topics - in national and international journals and collections of essays. Her monographic studies include “La scena del romanticismo inglese (1807-1833)” in two volumes (Esedra, 2001-2003), “La scena tentatrice. Coleridge, Byron, Baillie” (Esedra, 2008), “La tensione preregistica. La sperimentazione teatrale di Philippe-Jacques de Loutherbourg” (Esedra, 2013), "La Über-Marionette e le sue ombre. L’altro attore di Edward Gordon Craig" (Edizioni di Pagina, 2018), “L’attore nell’Ottocento europeo” (Dino Audino, 2021), "Arte e Passione (Dino Audino, 2023). She has been in the organizing committee of, and presented papers at several national and international conferences, and organized the international conference "INTRECCI. Incontri tra teorie e prassi attoriche e coreutiche nel passaggio tra Otto e Novecento" (Padua, 2019).
She taught “Theory and history of scene design” (2004), “History of drama” from 2005 to 2010. “Performing arts theories” from 2011 to 2023 at the University of Padua, where she has also been teaching “History of Performing arts ” since 2023 and “European theatre and its languages” since 2018.
An assistant professor from 2005 to 2017, Paola Degli Esposti is an associate professor in the Dipartimento di Studi Linguistici e Letterari, University of Padua.
