Giovanni Catapano was born in Pordenone in 1972. He is full Professor of the History of Medieval Philosophy since 2022 (Associate Professor from 2015 to 2022 and Assistant Professor from 2007 to 2015). He completed his studies in Philosophy at the University of Padua, where he earned his degree in 1995 and his Ph.D. in 1999. At the same university, he was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship from 1999 to 2001 and a research grant from 2002 to 2006. Since 2011, he is a faculty member of the PhD Programme in Philosophy, University of Padua. From 2013 to 2022, he was the president of the Interdepartmental Center for Research in Medieval Philosophy (Padua). He is a co-director of the journal «Medioevo. Rivista di storia della filosofia medievale». His research focuses on the late ancient roots of medieval thought, and in particular on: 1) the philosophy of Augustine of Hippo and its historical reception; 2) the ethics and anthropology of Plotinus; 3) the history of the idea of philosophy from Antiquity to the Middle Ages.
