Vittorio Berti is an Associate Professor of the History of Christianity and the Churches and has been qualified for the position of Full Professor. He studied at the Faculty of "Lettere e Filosofia" in Padua, focusing his education on the history of Christianity, particularly Eastern Christianity, and the study of Syriac. He graduated in 2002 under the supervision of Paolo Bettiolo. He obtained his PhD in History of Christianity from Padua, with a dissertation on the Syriac correspondence of the Patriarch of Baghdad, Timothy I (780-823). He held a research fellowship at the Department of History at the University of Padua (2007-2010). Between 2011 and 2012, he served as a Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter at the Theological Seminar of the University of Zurich (CH). From June 2014 to May 2015, he was a research fellow at the Department of Humanities at Roma TRE. Between August 2015 and November 2016, he was a researcher at the Giovanni XXIII Foundation for Religious Studies (Bologna). From December 2016 to November 2019, he was a fixed-term researcher (type b) at the Department of Historical, Geographical, and Antiquity Studies at the University of Padua. He served as secretary of Syriaca, the italian association for Syriac studies (2012-2018). He is a member of the Société d’Études Syriaques in France, the Italian University Network for the History of Christianity (CUSCC), the Interdepartmental Centre for Historical Studies on Christianity (Ca' Foscari University), the Interdepartmental Research Centre for Medieval Philosophy "Carlo Giacon" (University of Padua), and the Governing Board of the Interdepartmental Research Centre on the History of Aristotelianism and the Classical Tradition. He is responsible for student orientation and tutoring at DISSGEA, coordinator of the curriculum in the History of Religions within the degree in History, and of the GAV of the Master’s Degree in Religious Studies. He was a member of the GESTA doctoral programme (Historical, Geographical, and Anthropological Sciences) between 2017 and 2022 and served on its teaching committee. Since 2024, he has been a member of the international joing PHD ReCuPl (Religion, Culture and Public Life).
