Talents Venture (L’Osservatorio Talents Venture) is a company that collects and analyzes large amounts of data to support universities and public administrations on strategic decisions relating to the world of education and the incoming labour market. The company has carried out a study on the mobility of University of Padua students. The results show that the University of Padua holds second place for Italian universities welcoming non-resident students with 9,019 non-residents enrolled for the A.Y. 2021-22. The academic disciplines that Padua has the greatest capacity to attract students from other regions are agriculture, forestry and veterinary science, industrial and information engineering, psychology and science.
The phenomena of national student mobility mapped out the enrollment flows between Italian universities. The main results show that in the A.Y. 2021-22 there were 162,532 non-residents enrolled in Padua, 50% of the total number of enrolled students, which is a growing trend as the A.Y. 2010-11 saw 46% of total enrollments as non-residents. This 50% can be broken down into 28% of intra-regional enrollment (students from different Italian provinces but coming from those of the same region), 20% of inter-regional enrollment (students from other Italian regions) and 2% of students enrolled from a residence other than Italy.
The two other institutions that host the highest number of non-resident students from other Italian provinces are the University of Bologna in first place with 11,145 non-resident students for the A.Y. 2021-22, and the University of Milan with 6,477.
When looking at the "routes" of non-resident students leaving their local area, it emerges that, with rare exceptions, the most frequented routes are concentrated in Northern Italy. Student mobility in Northern Italy is well-facilitated thanks to effective infrastructural connections and a wide range of academic disciples. However, when analyzing those enrolled from regions that are further away from each other geographically, a vast majority appear to be those travelling from the regions of the south to the north.
