The Rector welcomes freshers with a virtual meeting dedicated to students who have chosen the Paduan University for their university career.

The event, hosted by journalist and presenter Federico Taddia, features Rosario Rizzuto, Rector of the University of Padua, and Telmo Pievani, delegate for institutional communication, who, live streaming from the Beato Pellegrino complex and the Padua exhibition pavilion, recount through first-hand testimonies the study, life and research experiences of a University that is always at the forefront, even in a complex historical moment such as the one we are experiencing.

The afternoon’s speakers are:

Tito Calì
professor in the Department of Biomedical sciences at the University of Padua, a pioneer in the use of the fluorescent protein GFP for studies of interactions between molecules.
Always fascinated by biochemistry, he graduated in Biological Sciences with an experimental dissertation and spent his final year in Marseille at the Centre d'Immunologie Marseille-Luminy (CIML); he obtained a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Bern.
He carried out his postdoctoral work in Padua, where he began studying mitochondria and how they function in the cell. He is currently involved in one of the Unipd projects on COVID-19, with an innovative study on the ways in which the virus enters human cells.

Valentine Lomellini
a historian of international relations, professor in the Department of Political Science, Law and International Studies at the University of Padua and at the Scuola Galileiana, she is lecturer on the first course on the history of terrorism taught in Italy.
After graduating in the Veneto capital, she went on to undertake a PhD that brought her major recognition: her dissertation, from which the book L’appuntamento mancato. La sinistra italiana e il dissenso nei regimi comunisti, 1968-1989 is taken, received the medal of the President of the Italian Republic and a mention in the Gallerano Prize for the richness and quality of the results achieved through her research.

Also contributing through video messages are Sergio Giordani, Mayor of Padua, Antonio Berti, director of the “Lucio Toniolo” experimental agricultural company, and Carlo Guglielmini, director of the OVUD University Veterinary Hospital.

Afterwards, Riccardo Zanotti, lead singer of the Italian band Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, offers his personal live wishes for this new beginning to all Unipd freshers and is available to answer questions and curiosities.
