The Rector welcomes freshmen with a virtual meeting dedicated to students who have chosen the University of Padua for their university career.
The event conducted by the journalist and presenter Federico Taddia sees the participation of Rosario Rizzuto, rector of the University of Padua, and Telmo Pievani, delegate for institutional communication, who in live streaming from the Beato Pellegrino complex and from the Padova exhibition pavilion tell through direct testimonies the experiences of study, life and research of a University always at the forefront, even in a complex historical moment like the one we are experiencing.
The protagonists of the afternoon are:
Tito Calì
professor of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Padova, pioneer in the use of the fluorescent protein GFP for studies of interactions between molecules.
Always fascinated by biochemistry, he graduated in Biological Sciences with an experimental dissertation and spent the last year in Marseille at the Marseille-Luminy Immunology Center (CIML); He holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Bern.
He carried out his post-PhD in Padova where he began the study of mitochondria and their functioning in the cell. He is currently participating in one of the unipd projects on COVID-19 with an innovative study on how the virus enters human cells.
Valentine Lomellini
historian of international relations, professor of the Department of Political Science, Law and International Studies of the University of Padua and at the Galilean School, she is lecturer of the first course on the history of terrorism held in Italy.
After graduating in the Venetian capital, she continued with a PhD that brought her great recognition: her dissertation, from which the book L'appuntamento mancato is taken. The Italian Left and Dissent in Communist Regimes, 1968-1989, was awarded the medal of the President of the Italian Republic and a mention in the Gallerano Prize for the richness and quality of the results achieved with his research.
Sergio Giordani, mayor of Padova, Antonio Berti, director of the "Lucio Toniolo" experimental agricultural company, and Carlo Guglielmini, director of the OVUD University Veterinary Hospital, also intervene through video contributions.
Afterwards Riccardo Zanotti, voice of the Italian band Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, makes his personal live wishes for this new beginning to all Unipd freshmen and lends himself to answer questions and curiosities.
