Unincontro 2024
October 3, 2024, 6:30 p.m.
Sala dei Giganti, Palazzo Liviano, reserved for Unipd freshmen, by reservation only
Rector Daniela Mapelli welcomes students who have chosen the University of Padua for their academic studies.
With greetings from the Rector and mayor Sergio Giordani, the event also includes the voices behind the research and life of some of the most relevant and current protagonists of our academic community.
Hosted by Gioia Lovison and Pietro Osti, a series of interviews follow with several special guests:
Francesco Bettella
A PhD student at the Department of Neurosciences of the University of Padua, where he also graduated in industrial engineering, Francesco is a multi-medallist swimmer at world level. He has collected awards in 4 successive Paralympics, starting from London in 2012, to continue in Rio 2016 (two agents) and Tokyo 2020 (two bronzes), until the recent return, with two medals, from the Paris Paralympics: a bronze in the 100m backstroke men S1 and a silver in the 50m backstroke men S1. He was awarded the prestigious recognition of the gold collar for sporting merit.
Luca Chiumento
A graduate in civil engineering from the University of Padua, Luca won a beautiful silver in the rowing quadruple sculls at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the same discipline, this year he is also European gold and, in 2023, world silver. While still studying at the university, Luca was crowned under-23 world champion in the United States.
Camilla Sguotti
A post-doc researcher in marine ecology at our university, where she also graduated, Camilla was recently awarded an ERC Starting Grant to start her own laboratory in the Department of Biology, to explore the mechanisms that govern the dynamics of marine ecosystems. Her studies, in fact, focus on the complex dynamics of marine populations and ecosystems, with particular attention to human impact, in search of ways for sustainable exploitation of the oceans. In 2022 Camilal had obtained a Marie Curie grant to study the dynamics of the Adriatic and Mediterranean Seas.
Francesca Tarantello
A student-athlete at the University of Padua as part of the University's dual career project, Francesca is attending the degree course in Molecular Biology. This year, at her paralympic debut, she won the silver medal in the women's PTVI triathlon together with her guide Silvia Visaggi. Francesca has been visually impaired since birth but by her own admission she has never considered her limited vision as a real disability or obstacle: she has been swimming since she was 6 years old, even competitively since she was 12; at 20 she began doing Triathlon (swimming/cycling/running) and her passion then became a job.
Next up is the stand-up comedy show "Short standup" by Matteo Fallica who has participated in two editions of "Stand-Up Comedy", broadcast on Comedy Central (SKY). His monologues do not lack the big themes that are so dear to millennials with VAT numbers (and not only): toxic masculinity, homophobes at the bar, WhatsApp emoticons, cicadas, banks, pheasants and much more. Not exactly in this order.
Participation in Unincontro is by invitation only and reserved for first year Unipd students (as per confidential email).
Starting around 6:30 pm, on October 8, the Caffè Pedrocchi will then host The Academy Night. Freshers & Students Welcome Party, an evening with a DJ set dedicated to all Unipd students.
