A meeting 2024

3 October 2024, 6.30pm
moved to the Sala dei Giganti of Palazzo Liviano, Padova
reserved for Unipd freshmen, by reservation
The rector Daniela Mapelli welcomes students who, after graduation, have chosen the University of Padova for their university studies.
The event, opened by the greetings of the rector and the mayor Sergio Giordani, tells the experiences of study, research and life of some protagonists of our academic community through their testimony.
The meeting will be led by Gioia Lovison and Pietro Osti, who will talk to the guests:
Francesco Bettella
PhD student at the Department of Neuroscience of the University of Padova, where he also graduated in industrial engineering, Francesco is a multi-medal swimmer worldwide. He has collected awards in 4 successive Paralympics , starting from London in 2012, to continue in Rio 2016 (two agents) and Tokyo 2020 (two bronzes), up to the recent return, with two medals, from the Paralympics in Paris: a bronze in the men's 100m backstroke S1 and a silver in the men's 50m backstroke S1. He was awarded the prestigious recognition of the golden collar for sporting merit.
Luca Chiumento
Graduated in civil engineering at the University of Padova, Luca won a beautiful silver medal in the 4 rowing pair at the Paris 2024 Olympics. In the same discipline, this year he is also European gold and, in 2023, world silver. While still studying at university, Luca was crowned under-23 world champion in the United States.
Camilla Sguotti
A post-doctoral researcher in marine ecology at our university, where she also graduated, Camilla was recently awarded an ERC Starting Grant to start her own laboratory in the Department of Biology, in which to explore the mechanisms that govern the dynamics of marine ecosystems. His studies, in fact, focus on the complex dynamics of marine populations and ecosystems, with particular attention to human impact, in search of ways for a sustainable exploitation of the oceans. In 2022 Camilal had obtained a Marie Curie fellowship to study the dynamics of the Adriatic and Mediterranean Seas.
Francesca Tarantello
Student-athlete of the University of Padova as part of the University's dual career project, Francesca attends the first-cycle/Bachelor's degree course in Molecular Biology. This year, at her Paralympic debut, she won the silver medal in the women's PTVI triathlon together with her guide Silvia Visaggi. Francesca has been visually impaired since birth but by her own admission she has never considered her limited vision as a real and disability or obstacle: practice swimming from the age of 6, even competitively from the age of 12; at the age of 20 she approached Triathlon (swimming/cycling/running) and her passion then became a job.
Next , the stand-up comedy show "Short standup" by Matteo Fallica, stand-up comedian who participated in two editions of "Stand-Up Comedy", broadcast on Comedy Central (SKY), is on the syllabus. In his monologues there is no shortage of the great themes that are so dear to millennials with a VAT number (and not only): toxic masculinity, homophobes at the bar, whatsapp smileys, cicadas, banks, pheasants and much more. Not exactly in that order.
Participation in Unincontro is by invitation only, reserved for Unipd freshmen (as per confidential email communication).
Freshmen are invited to participate in The Academy Night on October 8. Freshers & Students Welcome Party, an evening with a DJ set dedicated to all Unipd students, at Caffè Pedrocchi.
The initiatives to welcome freshmen continue in each first-cycle/Bachelor's degree course throughout the month of October, according to the calendar of "Università Porte Aperte".
