The Teaching4Learning (T4L) project
Teaching4Learning @ Unipd represents a genuine professional development plan for the teaching and e-learning competences of lecturers at the University of Padua and is a concrete example of a transformative model in the university context.
Among the first in the Italian landscape, T4L is the result of a continuous research pathway developed in the field of teaching in higher education and in international research groups, aimed at promoting the development of a teaching culture inspired by active learning (active learning) and based on the centrality of the learner (learner centred), as well as the building of a community of lecturers engaged in continuous learning who voluntarily become passionate about innovative teaching and join a faculty learning community.
This programme responds to the recommendations of the European Commission (2011; 2013), which encourages university teaching staff to experiment with new student-centred teaching and learning strategies, promoting the de-privatisation of teaching and the development of communities of lecturers capable of reflecting on their own teaching practices and on specific key themes.
- Encourage the development of a deep awareness of the assumptions and values relating to teaching and learning;
- offer the opportunity to learn new teaching strategies and methodologies to engage students, encouraging active and informed participation in teaching activities;
- create a Community a space for exchange in which to share reflections and teaching experiences among colleagues (towards a gradual de-privatisation of one’s own teaching);
- offer the opportunity for Peer Observation: observing one another as peers during classroom teaching, and giving and receiving constructive feedback;
- learn educational coaching practices in order to support colleagues in their teaching and develop effective practices to promote learning.
The T4L Report describes the evolution of the creation of the Teaching4Learning Project and the training pathway developed over time, showing how the pilot initiative launched in 2016 became, in just 5 years, deeply embedded in the teaching culture of Unipd.
It also makes it possible to become aware of what has been achieved, to assess the impact of the significant investments made, and to give fresh impetus to future developments.
