Sustainable, inclusive
The riches of a society, even at university, are the differences.
At Unipd we are inspired by a vision in which sustainability and inclusion are linked: we affirm a culture based on universal values such as human rights, peace, environmental protection and we promote it through daily actions.
UNIPD PLASTIC FREE
To help protect the environment, we are committed to reducing the consumption of single-use plastics.
We have installed water dispensers from the water mains, microfiltered and chilled, which can be drawn on free of charge; We have eliminated drinks in plastic bottles from vending machines, and we have chosen biodegradable cups and stirrers for hot drink dispensers.
To promote the consumption of mains water, we have distributed over 11 thousand water bottles in our community.
100% GREEN ENERGY
Since 2019, Unipd has been using only electricity from renewable sources in all its buildings, over 160 and located in the Padova, Chioggia and Bressanone offices. This choice makes it possible to reduce emissions by more than 18,500 tons of CO2, corresponding to 55% of those due to energy consumption and 21% of the total.
Our commitment is translating, day by day, into building and plant renovation interventions with the aim of reducing consumption, making our facilities more efficient and reducing the impact of our activities on the environment.
THE CULTURE OF INCLUSION AND ACCESSIBILITY
Unipd promotes actions aimed at building an inclusive context that aims to involve all members of the academic community in sharing a broader culture that is inclusive, equitable and focused on social justice.
A network of friendly, widespread and natural supports unfolds in Unipd thanks to teachers, students and staff of about thirty referents for Inclusion and disability present in each department. Every year, Unipd trains tutors for inclusion with a focus on the issues of equal opportunities, equity and inclusion: in the presence of disabilities, learning difficulties, health problems and other difficulties, Unipd collaborates with family members and local services to identify personalized support. Attention to accessibility in its various connotations is lively: to lessons, study materials, documents, websites, always in accordance with current regulations.
STUDYING INCLUSION AND SUSTAINABILITY
We call them "General Courses" and they are transversal and multidisciplinary teachings, open to students of all degree courses, which teach them to discuss social, environmental and economic sustainability.
General course "Ambassadors of Sustainability"
The course is aimed at those who want to deepen the theme of sustainability, through educational modules and practical activities, with the aim of stimulating greater awareness of everyone's responsibilities and offering concrete tools for a more effective commitment to solving environmental problems in urban areas (consumption of resources, waste production, well-being and health in urban areas).
General course "Genres, knowledge and social justice"
The course aims to deepen, through the lens of gender, the concepts of culture, ethnicity, generation, difference and inequality, and the relationships between migration, multicultural societies and identity politics. It will be activated in the next academic year.
General course "Energy and Sustainability in the 21st Century"
The lessons allow you to delve into the effects of energy consumption and production on the environment and climate, as well as its social impacts.
General course "Peace and Nonviolent Conflict Transformation"
With this course the University of Padova intends to rekindle the spirit of the Universal Declaration, promoting the development of a culture based on universal values such as human rights, peace, environmental protection and international solidarity
