The Academic Ranking of World Universities or ARWU is prepared and published annually by a specialized agency, Shanghai Ranking Consultancy
The methodology used by the ARWU ranking is academic, research-oriented.
More than two thousand academic institutions are analyzed and a ranking is published based on the following six indicators to which a percentage weight is attributed:
> Alumni: Number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals earned by alumni (10%)
> Award: number of Nobel laureates and Fields medals on the academic staff (20%)
> HiCi: Number of Highly Cited Researchers on the academic staff (20%) (determined by Clarivate Analytics)
> N&S: Number of articles published in academic publications, Nature and Science (20%)
> PUB: publications, based on the bibliometric indexes Science Citation Index (it is an index concerning the citations contained in about 600 of the most influential journals in the scientific sector) and Social Sciences Citation Index (20%)
> PCPs: per capita performance of the institution (10%, per capita performance).
The ranking is punctual only for the first 100 universities. The positions of the following are grouped (101-150; 151-200; 201-300 etc). Within the same positioning band, the universities are arranged in alphabetical order.
The Global Ranking of Academic Subject (GRAS) is also produced with the same methodology
For further information, please refer to the complete methodology on the official website of the Shanghai Ranking agency, on which you can also view the profile of the University of Padua.
