Born in Padova on 20 January 1966.
Graduated in Mathematics in Padova in 1989, he obtained a PhD in Functional Analysis and Applications in 1993 at SISSA in Trieste. From 1991 to 1998 he was university researcher, from 1998 to 2002 associate professor and since 2002 full professor at the Faculty of Statistical Sciences of the University of Padua. He currently belongs to the Department of Mathematics "Tullio Levi-Civita", where he teaches courses in Data Science and Natural Sciences.
He has published more than fifty scientific papers in the field of Stochastic Calculus, Stochastic Processes, Applications of Probability to Biological Models and Evaluation of Information Retrieval Systems, with more than 650 citations and an H-index of 15 (Google Scholar 2021). He has been a visiting professor at the Universitat de Barcelona, Universitetet i Oslo and the University of British Columbia.
He has held the following management positions at the University of Padua: president of the first-cycle/Bachelor's degree in Statistical, Economic, Financial and Business Sciences from 2002 to 2007, director of the Department of Mathematics "Tullio Levi-Civita" from 2014 to 2018 and president of the first-cycle/Bachelor's degree course in Data Science from 2019 to 2021.
