Scientific Degree Plan and guidance and tutoring projects
The University of Padua is involved in the national project called Piano Nazionale Lauree Scientifiche, a well-established initiative aimed at promoting the acquisition by students of scientific skills that are better aligned with the challenges of contemporary society and the expectations of the world of work. The plan is intended as a school-university “synchroniser” (final three years of upper secondary school - first year of university) for each of the following disciplines:
- Biology–Biotechnology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Geology
- Mathematics
- Computer Science
- Materials Science
- Statistics
- Natural and Environmental Sciences
The Piano Nazionale Lauree Scientifiche includes six actions:
ACTION 1 – Guidance for enrolment, promoting gender balance
ACTION 2 – Reduction of dropout rates
ACTION 3 – Training, support and monitoring of tutors’ activities
ACTION 4 – Laboratories for the teaching of basic sciences
ACTION 5 – Self-assessment teaching activities
ACTION 6 – Teacher training
The need for universities to make a greater commitment to supporting young secondary school graduates in their university choices and in managing their first years of study is clear and is also confirmed by the initiatives of the MIUR, which funds the new Piani di Orientamento e Tutorato (POT), aimed at supporting guidance actions addressed to students attending the final two years of upper secondary school, through the development, among other things, of meeting pathways between secondary school teachers and university lecturers for the joint development of guidance strategies.
