To obtain retirement, certain formalities are required for the correct reconstruction of the working career and the resulting calculations for pension and severance pay.
In particular, it is important to proceed in good time with the redemption and transfer of all relevant contributory periods.

Useful information after termination of service

The employee must report to the Pension Service to complete the declarations required for the settlement of the pension at least three months before the date of termination of service. They will receive the pension calculation and the unofficial calculation of the amount of the severance indemnity.

In the event of retirement for reasons other than age limits, the worker must submit the application at least five months before termination: if less time is allowed, there is a risk that the pension will not be paid promptly and, for technical-administrative staff, also of the penalty for failure to give notice if the application is not submitted within the time limits set out in art. 39 of the C.C.N.L.

The arrangements for recognising periods of service vary according to the different contribution scheme.

Applications for service credit purchase, aggregation and assessment of pre-tenure service must be submitted at least two years before the expected date of termination of employment. These are forwarded to INPDADP, which issues the relevant decision determining the amount of any applicable cost.
From the date of receipt of the decision, the person concerned has 90 days to waive the measure or, if accepting it, choose the payment method (by instalments or in a single payment). Within 30 days of receiving acceptance of the payment, the Pensions Office forwards the case to the Personnel Administration Service for deduction of the instalments from salary.

Employees hired on a permanent contract before 31 December 2000 are entitled to the termination indemnity. For staff hired on a permanent contract after 31 December 2000, however, the rules on the end-of-employment severance payment apply instead, a benefit provided for employees in the private sector in general.

All lecturing and research staff, however, are entitled to the termination indemnity.

The termination indemnity is equal to the last salary received, taking into account the special supplementary allowance and the thirteenth monthly salary payment, (with some adjustments for lecturing or technical-administrative staff), multiplied by the number of qualifying years, counting any fraction of a year exceeding six months as a full year.

The termination indemnity is paid automatically (with no need to apply) at the end of the employment relationship.

INPDAP pays the amount accrued on the basis of the settlement statement and service record sent by the employing administration.

This documentation is sent to INPDAP within 15 days of the termination of the employment relationship.

INPDAP arranges payment of the termination indemnity according to the scheme set out in the following table.

The amount due is paid directly through a credit institution designated by INPDAP or, on request, credited to the person’s bank or postal current account.
