Documentary heritage

The University's book and documentary heritage reflects its long history and its many areas of research. The almost two million paper volumes owned by the University's libraries collect highly specialized texts alongside a "treasure" of almost 32,000 ancient books, the subject of adequate conservation attention but also of digitization projects that guarantee their usability.

The digitized documents (books, photographs, drawings, wallcharts, grey literature) are hosted in Phaidra, a platform dedicated to the long-term archiving of digital objects. These digitized collections enrich the numerous document collections accessible from GalileoDiscovery, which include books and scientific journals in electronic format free or for a fee, disciplinary databases and other multimedia products.

The University's documentary heritage includes very different types of documents, such as multimedia material, an impressive cartographic heritage that can be consulted through the Mapfly portal , degree  and PhD dissertations, and a surprising variety of historically relevant teaching aids, such as scientific wall tables whose digitizations are preserved in Phaidra.

There are also numerous special collections, such as the Bodrero Fund for Philosophy and the Archive of Venetian Writers of the Twentieth Century acquired through the Veneto Region.
