Fusinato Student House
After the restorations, the new "A. Fusinato" Student House, the new campus of the Galilean School of Higher Education of the University of Padova, was inaugurated in April 2026. Located in the heart of the university district of Padova between Via Vesalio and Via Marzolo, it is a historically significant place for the University.
The realization of the restoration project has produced functional environments, exclusively dedicated to the residence, teaching and administration of the school of excellence.
The residence offers students, in addition to various accommodation solutions, classrooms and study rooms with state-of-the-art technological infrastructures and, for daily life, kitchens, laundries, a modern gym, a music room, a newspaper library and a large leisure room.
Not only that, two large study rooms are open to the entire student university community , thus making the new complex a place in dynamic dialogue with the urban fabric
The "Fusinato Complex" consists of the historic building "Casa dello studente Fusinato" and the new study rooms for students of the University of Padova.
The total area of the new complex is about 6000 square meters. The main building is spread over 5 floors above ground and a basement, and will house 187 accommodation places for the students of the Galilean School.
The redevelopment intervention, despite the structural constraints of the historical context, has made the building fully accessible for all collective spaces such as study rooms, classrooms, lecture hall, kitchens, newspaper library, gym and leisure spaces, as well as 9 beds designed with inclusive furnishings and layouts.
The new spaces also house the management of the Galilean School of Higher Studies and a new building that provides students of the university with two study rooms surrounded by greenery.
The redevelopment project was awarded in 2021 by the Veneto Region as part of the "Compraverde Veneto" initiative for its aesthetic and functional characteristics, accessibility, and impact on the environment that has allowed the complex to achieve high standards of energy efficiency with the achievement of the ministerial field of study code A.
History
The historic building that extends onto Via Marzolo dates back to 1913, was then expanded with the student residence in the thirties and fifties and finally completed in the early eighties of Nocevento.
Its construction responded to the need to offer deserving students a multifunctional complex with complementary spaces such as a gym, library and accommodation. Over time it became a symbol of university policies in favor of students.
In 2005 the structure was closed due to safety problems, making any maintenance impossible. After a period of abandonment, interrupted only by temporary use by the Marzolo collective between 2010 and 2019, in 2015 the building returned to the property of the University of Padova.
The following year the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape recognized it as a cultural asset of the Italian State, enhancing its historical and architectural importance.

In 2017 , the University submitted a renovation project to the Ministry of Education aimed at restoring the residence to its original function. The ministerial funding of about 11.5 million euros, supplemented by further contributions including that of the Caripo Foundation, has made it possible to start an overall redevelopment syllabus.
After the design competition and the subsequent tender procedures, the symbolic laying of the foundation stone took place in September 2021.
