Foundations, associations, charities and other Italian public and private bodies
In Italy there are numerous organisations that promote calls aimed at supporting research. According to their available budget and in line with their own “mission”, they fund basic, clinical and applied research, at multiple levels and in various forms, addressing researchers at any stage of their scientific career, whether or not they are affiliated with a research body.
Fondazione Cariparo: funds research projects and carries out projects of collective benefit for the provinces of Padua and Rovigo, in numerous fields.
Fondazione Cariplo: it is one of the largest philanthropic organisations in Europe; it funds scientific research projects (often in collaboration with bodies such as Fondazione Telethon) in the biomedical, social and environmental sectors.
AIRC (Foundation for Cancer Research): regularly issues competitive calls to support researchers and oncology laboratories throughout Italy.
Fondazione Veronesi: funds scholarships and excellent scientific research projects, particularly in the field of oncology and prevention.
Fondazione Bruno Kessler: is a multidisciplinary research institution specialising in technology, innovation, the humanities and social sciences, based in Trento.
The University of Padua and Fondazione Bruno Kessler intend to strengthen their already well-established collaboration through the launch of the call "Seed grants for joint research activities".
Foundations, associations, charities and other international public and private bodies
In Europe and worldwide, there are numerous organisations that fund basic, clinical and applied research at international level, at several levels and in different forms, according to their available budget and in line with their own “mission”.
Researchers at any stage of their scientific career, whether or not they hold a position at a research institution, are funded with innovative individual projects or collaborative projects with other national or international research groups.
Some funding bodies support research only to foster scientific development in their own country, therefore requiring the researcher to be mobile for the entire duration of the research contract (post-doc); others, on the other hand, offer the possibility of choosing the host institution, which may also be the one where the researcher holds a position (University of Padua).
All scientific fields are funded. Most funding bodies were established to address specific health and pharmacological issues, but there are also organisations open to proposals in any field, provided they are innovative and of great impact, whether social, economic, technological or political.
