The University of Padua is the administrative site of the national PhD Programme:

• National PhD Programme in Scientific, Technological and Social Methods Enabling Circular Economy - 39° cycle
• National PhD Program in Technologies for fundamental research in Physics and Astrophysics – 39° cycle

The University of Padua is also a partner in the setting up of doctorates of national interest under DM 226/21 in which leading Italian universities and important research institutions are involved.
In each national doctorates, the University of Padua has awarded a PhD fellowship with a restricted theme from the funds of DM 351/2022.

The selection procedures are active at the administrative offices of the national doctorates. 

The University of Padua is actively involved in the establishment of the two National Doctorates activated by the MUR starting from the 37th cycle (a.y. 21/22) in which the main Italian universities and major research institutions are involved:

the National PhD programme in Sustainable Development and Climate Change, established by the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS di Pavia, in agreement with 30 Italian Athenaeum. Its purpose is to prepare the future generations to reshape a resilient society, able to best manage the issue of climate change and rethink the processes of sustainable development, no longer measured in terms of simple economic development exclusively. The main topic of the PhD programme is the study of the complexity arising from the interrelationships among technological progress, availability of natural resources, migrations, rights, wellness and quality of life of the present and future generation, climate change, territorial specificities, accessibility to water and food.

the National PhD Programme in Artificial Intelligence, which represents the first national initiative about this topic. The programme was launched in July 2020 from the collaboration among CNR, Università di Pisa, Università di Roma Sapienza, Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, Università di Napoli "Federico II" and Politecnico di Torino.
