Doctorates DM 117/2023 co-financed by companies
The PhD (PhD) is a level III course of study, which can be accessed only after the master's degree and by passing an entrance exam, announced annually; it has a duration of 3/4 years. The objective of a PhD course is the acquisition, through a specific research project, of a correct methodology for advanced scientific research, which can be exercised at universities, public bodies or private entities.
With Ministerial Decree 117/2023 , 13,560,000 euros were awarded to the University of Padua for 50 % co-financing of 452 PhD scholarships . The decree provides that universities must identify partner companies willing to co-finance the remaining 50% of the scholarship to meet their research and innovation needs.

WHO
For the purposes of these benefits, the following are considered "enterprises": any entity that carries out an economic activity, regardless of its legal status and its financing methods.
HOW
A. To learn who deals with the issues of interest within the University?

B. Is there already an agreement with a lecturer of the University to start this collaboration?

FEATURES
According to DM 117/2023, PhD students awarded these scholarships are required to
- Carry out a period abroad of at least 6 months, even non-consecutive
- Carry out a period with the company of at least 6 months, even non-consecutive
- Report on the activities carried out every six months through the appropriate portal
- The issues must concern one of the NRRP areas , namely:
1. Digitization, innovation, competitiveness, culture and tourism; 2. Green revolution and ecological transition; 3. Infrastructure and sustainable mobility; 4. Education and research; 5. Social, gender and territorial equity; 6. Health
WHEN
- The letter of intent must be sent by 15 June
- The agreement will be signed by 30 August
- The call for applications will be published from 12 July to 24 August
- The start of the courses is scheduled for November 1st
Tax breaks for companies
Exemption from the payment of total social security contributions payable by employers, with the exclusion of premiums and contributions due to INAIL, up to a maximum amount of € 3,750 on an annual basis for each permanent employment of staff in possession of the title of PhD. Each company can apply for the benefit within the limit of two permanent positions for each funded PhD scholarship - Legislative Decree no. 13 of 24 February 2023
