How to start a spin-off
Before submitting the request to start the process for the establishment or recognition of a spin-off, we recommend that you consult our Spin-off Playbook. Inside, you will find an overview of the main topics related to the entrepreneurial journey, together with all the information on the steps to follow to launch a university spin-off, as described in the University Spin-off Regulations.
To submit the request, it is necessary to contact the University Spin-off Office (spinoff@unipd.it), which will arrange the introductory meeting to present the entrepreneurial initiative being proposed and will support the process for the establishment or recognition of the new spin-off.
The preparation of the business plan and the formulation of objectives consistent with the criteria of economic sustainability will be guided and supported by the university business incubator Start Cube.
The "Spin-off Playbook" stems from experience gained with the aim of setting out the steps to follow for the establishment of a university spin-off; it also contains an overview of key questions and issues that often arise along the entrepreneurial journey
From research to enterprise. Academic entrepreneurship pathway
1st edition 2026
A training course for teaching staff, researchers, post-docs and PhD students at the University of Padua to acquire tools and skills to enhance the results of their research, assess its market potential and develop a spin-off entrepreneurial project.
It is organised by the Knowledge Enhancement and Academic Entrepreneurship Office in collaboration with Start Cube.
The programme includes a series of training modules, and attendance enables PhD students to acquire 3 university credits (ECTS credits).
Participants are awarded the Open Badge at the end of the course, subject to passing the final test.
The programme contents guide you along the journey from research to market:
from enhancing the value of research results and the process of knowledge and technology transfer to developing and validating the business model, from market and competitor analysis to defining marketing and go-to-market strategies, through to fundraising and venture capital, building an effective pitch for investors, protecting intellectual property, and the process of establishing a spin-off with the University of Padua
