Other European programmes
In addition to those provided for in the framework syllabus (e.g. Horizon 2020 or Horizon Europe), other research funding opportunities are available at European level. A variety of topics and areas are affected. Funding for some specific sectors and fields can be managed by the relevant Directorates-General (DGs), with their own financial resources and competitive calls. Other programmes are managed directly by the European Commission and are not included in the Framework Programme. Such funding schemes can fund research projects and/or networking, dissemination/sharing of good practices.
There are also other funding instruments, programmes and synergies that are partially included and supported within the Horizon 2020 budget, following rules of participation that are quite different from those of the three pillars, also involving the participation of organisations that may be bound by long-term contractual constraints or by the establishment of new legal entities composed of both representatives of institutional and industrial categories and consortia public. These synergies are supported to pursue complex and challenging strategic objectives of public interest and with a long-term perspective. This is the case for joint programming, transnational calls between public authorities, public-private and public-public partnerships and other synergies that require effective collaboration between the public and private sectors.
