Education and professional appointments. Andrea Pietracaprina was born on September 17, 1963. He received the Laurea degree (summa cum laude) in Computer Science (1987) from the University of Pisa, Italy, co-winning best undergraduate thesis awards from IBM-Italia and UNITEAM. He received the M.S. (1991) and Ph.D. (1994), both in Computer Science, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL, USA. In 1994 he was Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Padova. Since 1994, he has been with the University of Padova. Since 2002 he is Full Professor at the Department of Information Engineering, where he served as vice chair, from 2008 to 2013.

Research. Andrea Pietracaprina has an established expertise in: models of computation, algorithms and data structures for parallel and hierarchical platforms, big-data algorithmics, data mining and ad-hoc networks. In 2004 one of his papers won the Best Paper Award (Algorithm track) at the 18th IEEE-IPDPS. He has co-authored a chapter of the Handbook of Parallel Computing (CRC Press'08) and an entry for the Encyclopedia of Parallel Computing (Springer'11). His research results have been published in over 80 papers appeared in international journals, conference proceedings, and collections. He has been invited lecturer at: Dagstuhl-Seminars (95,97,09,17); Workshop Random Graals (08,10); Workshop ScalPerf (04-15); Workshop FIMI (03); DIMACS Workshop on Distributed Data and Structures (99); Data Driven Innovation Summit (16). His current bibliometric indicators from Google Scholar (as of April 2018) are: H-index 19; Citations 1147.

Funding. Andrea Pietracaprina has been national coordinator of the MIUR-PRIN AlgoDEEP project (10-12). He has been (co-)Principal Investigator of several projects: MIUR-PRIN Amanda (14-17); University of Padova Ateneo projects (04-06 and 13-15); CNR bilateral project, in collaboration with the University College Cork, IRL (96-99); NATO project, in collaboration with Texas AandM University, College Station, USA (96-97). He has also been Key Researcher in several projects supported by the Italian Ministry of Education and Research (MIUR), CNR, and the EU. Moreover, he has been reviewer for projects funded within the 5th EU Framework Programme.

Editorial activities. From 2010 to 2014 Andrea Pietracaprina was member of the editorial board of the Elsevier Journal of Discrete Algorithms. From 2004 to 2009 he was Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems. In 2008 he has been co-Guest-Editor of a Special Issue of Theoretical Computer Science.

Program committees and organization of scientific events. Andrea Pietracaprina has been \emph{Member of the Program Committee} of the several international conferences, including, among others: ACM-SIAM SODA (17); ACM SPAA (02,05,08); ICALP (14); IEEE-IPDPS (08,10,12,17); EURO-PAR Conference (98,04,05,09,14); ACM Computing Frontiers (10,13,15); PKDDECML (15-18). He has been Global Chair of Topic 12 for EURO-PAR Conference in 2005, 2009 and 2014. He has also been involved in the organization of a number of international conferences (ACM SPAA'96, ESA'98, ICALP'06, GraphAnalytics'16) and schools. Since 1999 he is Member of the Advisory Board of the EURO-PAR Conference.
