Area di ricerca
Il Prof. Nestola si è occupato di mineralogia in condizioni non ambientali, investigando le proprietà elastiche e l’evoluzione strutturale delle principali fasi di mantello terrestre in alta pressione e temperatura. Le principali tecniche d’indagine utilizzate sono la diffrazione a cristallo singolo e da polveri, la spettroscopia micro-Raman e la microscopia elettronica. Recentemente ha applicato gli stessi metodi mineralogici all’analisi delle inclusioni in diamanti naturali col fine di determinare le condizioni di formazione. Infine, il Prof. Nestola ha recentemente ottenuto un finanziamento per lo studio delle fasi a carbonio delle meteoriti antartiche
