Roberto Raga è Dottore di Ricerca in Geoingegneria (Cagliari, 2000) e dal Febbraio 2006 è Ricercatore all'Università di Padova, dove insegna dal 2008 il corso di "Remediation of Contaminated Sites", per studenti internazionali del Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Environmental Engineering (in lingua Inglese).
I suoi interessi didattici e di ricerca sono relativi alla gestione dei rifiuti e alla bonifica di siti contaminati e discariche, con particolare riferimento all'applicazione della tecnica dell'aerazione in situ per l'abbattimento delle emissioni di lungo termine e la bonifica delle discariche.
È membro dei seguenti Task Group dell’International Waste Working Group (IWWG)

L’IWWG (www.iwwg.eu) è un gruppo di lavoro che riunisce alcuni dei più noti esperti internazionali nella gestione dei rifiuti e costituisce un laboratorio per l’elaborazione di nuove idee e la promozione di filoni di ricerca avanzata.
E' stato coivolto nei seguenti progetti internazionali finanziati da Unione Europea e Ministero degli Affari Esteri:
- PSDWSEP - Pre-treatment and safe disposal of municipal solid waste and waste water sludge for environmental protection (EU, FP5, 2000 – 2002);
- EVAPASSOLD - EVAluation and Preliminary ASSessment of OLd waste Deposits (EU, FP5, 2000 – 2004)
- TETRAWAMA - Development of Teaching and Training Modules for Higher Education in the Waste Management Sector (EU, Asialink project, 2003 – 2006)
- Cooperation project Italy – China: ROLES – Remediation of Old Landfills for Environmental sustainability and final sink (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2016 – 2018)
E' membro del Comitato di Programma dei Simposi Sardinia (www.sardiniasymposium.it) col ruolo di Segretario Scientifico.
E' autore di oltre 60 pubblicazioni scientifiche su riviste nazionali e internazionali, libri e atti di convegni.

Gestione sostenibile delle discariche:
- valutazione delle emissioni di lungo termine dalle discariche;
- ottimizzazione dei processi di degradazione in discariche ibride.
Bonifica delle vecchie discariche mediante la tecnica dell'aerazione in situ:
- bilancio dell'Azoto e del Carbonio nel corso dell'applicazione dell'aerazione in situ;
- caratterizzazione del percolato e del biogas in discariche aerate;
- analisi dell'influenza dei parametri di processo (temperatura, modalità di aerazione, ricircolo del percolato) sull'efficacia della tecnica dell'aerazione in situ.
Bonifica delle vecchie discariche con la tecnica del Landfill Mining:
- caratterizzazione e possibile riutilizzo delle frazioni separate a seguito del Landfill Mining in discarica.
