Dr Roberta Merlanti was born in Turin (Italy) on September, 25, 1974. She is an Italian citizen. She gradueted in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Padua (Italy) discussing the final thesis "Drug-metabolizing liver activity in veterinary species: species-specific differences". In 2001 she obtained the qualification in Veterinary Surgery. In 2002 she was winner of a three years PhD fellowship in Veterinary Public Health and Producing Animal Sciences at the University of Padua. In 2005 she obtained the PhD title in Veterinary Public Health and Producing Animal Sciences and she worked also as veterinary, collaborating on the management of some field projects, funded by the Regione del Veneto, as part of the "Research for the control and reppression of the illicit use of boldenone in beef cattle." From January 2005 to July 2008 she attended as a young researcher at the Department of Public Health, Comparative Pathology and Veterinary Hygiene, current Department of Comparative Biomedicine and Food Science, at the University of Padua, where she now attends as a senior researcher for the SS VET/07 (Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology). She teached in Vicenza “Xenobiotic residues in food and consumer safety".

Area di ricerca

Her research lines are:
-development of purification and extraction protocols of biological samples (plasma, urine, feces, liver, kidney, fat, muscle, honey, milk, ect) from different veterinary species (samples for HLPC and LC-MS analysis) to evaluate drug residues
-use of in vitro systems, such as hepatic and extraepatic subcellular fractions, to evaluate specie-specific metabolism of veterinary drugs and growth promoters
-development of HPLC analytical methods useful to determinate metabolic activity enzymes, such as Citochrome P450 (Ethoxyresorufin O-deethylation for CYP1A1; Testosterone hydroxylation for CYP3A and Tolbutamide methyl hydroxylation for CYP2C) in some producing animal species (bovine, rabbit, pig, fish, bivalves, ect)
-Identification in urine of markers of illicit treatments in beef cattle ( beta-boldenone alpha-/beta-testosterone, cortisol)

She is a Co-Author of 18 international publications with ISSN/ISBN, 19 posters at national and international conferences, 3 abstracts of communications at national and international conference.
