Transferring to the University of Padua
Academic Year 2026/27 - Bachelor's Degree Programmes, single-cycle Master's Degrees and Master's Degrees
Transfer is a procedure that allows you to continue at the University of Padua the Bachelor's Degree Programme, single-cycle Master's Degree or Master's Degree started at another Italian university. There are specific requirements for requesting it; the necessary information is available in the following document, which sets out what it is necessary to do (and know) beforehand before submitting the transfer request or, alternatively, the withdrawal and new enrolment application:
Conditions for submitting an incoming transfer request and implications for your academic career.
It is advisable to read the indicated document well in advance of the start of the academic year, as some deadlines (for example those for the recognition of previously obtained university credits, for those who intend to request it) are already set in July 2026.
For admission purposes, consideration is given to the time when the application is submitted by the student (which must have been submitted within the deadlines set by the Degree Programme) and its compliance with the requirements and submission procedures. The transfer application from another university is processed after submission and completed within a few working days, including after the deadlines.
If you hold a qualification obtained abroad and are requesting a transfer for an English-taught Bachelor's Degree Programme or a Master's Degree (in English or Italian), follow the procedures indicated on this page: https://www.unipd.it/trasferirsi-universita-padova-titoli-esteri.
Example 1 – Transfer with recognition of exams
Andrea is enrolled in the second year of Biology at the University of Bologna but would like to enrol in the Molecular Biology degree programme, also at the University of Padua. Andrea has already taken some exams in the Biology degree programme that are very similar to those included in the Molecular Biology degree programme and would like these to be recognised so as not to have to retake them.
To obtain recognition of the exams already taken, Andrea will have to submit an application for credit recognition as indicated on the page https://www.unipd.it/riconoscimento-crediti-pregressi. By submitting the application during the specified period (June/July 2026), Andrea will receive a decision stating, among the exams taken in the Biology degree programme in Bologna, which ones have been recognised as valid for the Molecular Biology degree programme in Padua.
Based on the assessments made by the committee that has reviewed the academic record, Andrea will find out whether they may enrol in the first, second or third year of Molecular Biology, whether they will have to take an admission test or whether they will be exempt from it.
At this point, Andrea will have to obtain admission to the Molecular Biology degree programme and, if admission is granted, decide whether to submit an application for transfer or an application for withdrawal and new enrolment.
The document "conditions for submitting the incoming transfer request and implications for your university career" published on this page provides information on how to obtain admission (also depending on the proposed year of admission) and on the differences between the transfer application and the withdrawal-and-new-enrolment application.
Once Andrea has chosen which option best suits their situation, they may follow the transfer instructions available on this page (or as indicated in the document) or the instructions for withdrawal and new enrolment.
Example 2 - Transfer without recognition of exams
Alex is enrolled in the first year of Computer Science at the University of Udine but would like to enrol in the Lettere degree programme at the University of Padua. Alex decides not to request the transfer of the university credits (ECTS credits) accumulated in the Computer Science degree programme.
At this point, Alex will have to obtain admission to the Lettere Antiche degree programme and decide whether to submit an application for transfer or an application for withdrawal and new enrolment.
The document "conditions for submitting the incoming transfer request and implications for your university career" published on this page provides information on how to obtain admission and on the differences between the transfer application and the withdrawal-and-new-enrolment application.
Once Alex has chosen which option best suits their situation, they may follow the transfer instructions available on this page or the instructions for withdrawal and new enrolment.
