Civil service

The National Civil Service is the voluntary choice of girls and boys aged 18 to 28 to dedicate a year of their lives to the community. 

Established in 2001 as an alternative to military conscription, it was created with the aim of:

• promote the implementation of the constitutional principles of social solidarity
• promote solidarity and cooperation, at national and international level, with particular attention to the protection of social rights, services to the person and education for peace among peoples
• participate in the safeguarding and protection of the country's environmental, historical, artistic and cultural heritage, including through civil protection activities
• contribute to the civic, social, cultural and professional training of young people with activities also carried out abroad.

In 2005 the Veneto Region established the Voluntary Regional Civil Service, aimed at Italian and EU citizens, resident or domiciled in Veneto. In 2017, the Universal Civil Service was established.

At Unipd you can choose to participate in both national projects (Universal Civil Service) and regional projects, in the fields of assistance, environment and civil protection, artistic and cultural heritage, education and cultural promotion.

For PhD courses, the course will be suspended for civil service.
