Academic Year 2026/27 – English language proficiency for admission to degree programmes
Bachelor’s degrees, single-cycle master’s degrees and master’s degrees
For degree programmes delivered in English and for some degree programmes delivered in Italian, a minimum level of English proficiency is required. Each admission notice or call for applications specifies:
- Which level is required for entry, B1 or B2 (CEFR);
- What the deadlines are for meeting the requirement;
- What the ways are in which the requirement can be met. This page sets out the methods common to all programmes; any additional methods are indicated in the individual admission notice or call for applications.
Certificates must be submitted in the manner and by the deadlines specified in the admission notices and calls for applications.
It is necessary to attach the certificate, front and back, within the procedure. Those who have taken the test and have not yet received the certificate may submit the provisional statement of the score obtained (statement of results) issued by the certifying body.
The accepted certificates are only those listed below, with reference to the minimum scores, which vary according to courses and curricula taught in Italian or in English.
The accepted qualifications are those relating to a bachelor’s degree, single-cycle master’s degree, master’s degree, or equivalent (foreign qualifications or qualifications awarded under previous systems); it is not sufficient to have completed part of the course abroad.
The award of the qualification must be demonstrated by submitting, in the methods and by the deadlines specified in the admission notices and calls for applications, the self-certification with exams or the diploma supplement issued by the university at which it was obtained.
If the qualification in question (submitted solely for the purpose of meeting the language requirement) was obtained abroad, the Transcript of Records and the final diploma certifying the award are required.
In all cases, the documentation must explicitly indicate the language of instruction of the course. Otherwise, it is necessary to attach an official document issued by the university certifying the language of instruction of the course.
Native speakers are considered to be those who hold an identity document indicating one of the following nationalities (dual citizenship is also considered valid for this purpose): Antigua e Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Irlanda, Jamaica, Malta, Nuova Zelanda, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Regno Unito, USA.
To certify your status as a native speaker, you must attach an identity document showing possession of the relevant citizenship, in accordance with the procedures and deadlines specified in the notices and admission calls.
