Purifas – Enactus Team

Logo purifas

Purifas is a multidisciplinary student team from the University of Padua committed to addressing the urgent environmental challenge of PFAS contamination in water. PFAS, known as "forever chemicals", are toxic compounds found in everyday products that pose serious health risks, including cancer and immune system dysfunction. In the Veneto region, more than 350,000 people have been exposed to these substances, highlighting the pressing need for rapid monitoring solutions.

Our project combines technological innovation with social commitment. We are developing a portable, low-cost electrochemical sensor capable of detecting PFAS in real time, eliminating the need for expensive laboratory analyses. At the same time, we are creating an artificial intelligence-based platform that works alongside the device to support water managers in regulatory compliance management. The platform integrates real-time sensor data to generate predictive analyses and provide early warning signals.

In addition, we act as facilitators, collaborating with universities, start-ups, communities and civil society organisations to promote information transparency and develop targeted solutions for local contexts, with the aim of supporting a PFAS-free future.
