Outdoor education. Design and growth experiences in childhood between inside and outside
Lifelong Learning Course
Scientific Coordinator: Prof. Emilia Restiglian
Date: February-April 2023.
The meetings on 4 February and 25 March 2023 will take place in person (Centro Infanzia Girotondo delle età, Via Pianale 34, San Pietro di Feletto, Conegliano).
The meetings on 9 February and 14 April 2023 will take place remotely (zoom platform).
Goals:
MAIN:
- enhance the skills that teachers and educators need to deepen and juggle in order to work meaningfully in an unstructured context such as:
- ability to interpret skills between the inside and the outside;
- ability to observe situations and to notice what surrounds us in different contexts;
- have a cultured gaze able to consider natural and non-natural materials, according to multiple paths, languages and opportunities that they can offer; - reflect on the posture of the adult/teacher/educator in being with children in an unstructured context, questioning what role to assume in accompanying children in their learning and research paths and which in the relaunch of themes, insights and events;
- Reflect on diversity, but also on the interaction between the inside and the outside, between what can be done inside with children and what can be done outside. What emerges is an idea of outdoor education not as a "move" of contexts in which I can do the same things, but as different worlds in which to develop ways of working and being that complement each other;
- practice the acquisition of a sartorial way of doing things that is able to weave and "sew" together the inside and the outside
- build possible projects between the inside and the outside, to be realized in their own realities; use of generative ideas to be developed and observation sheets.
Target audience: Educators in early childhood education services (age 0-3 years) - Kindergarten teachers (age 3-6 years)
Maximum number 35. In case of a larger number of participants, a second edition of the course may be planned
Training Methods: Remote meetings on a dedicated platform and experiential workshops at a children's centre. Above all, active and participatory methodologies will be used.
The course involves the elaboration by the participants of individual works useful for a shared reflection through the use of a specially prepared platform. The course aims to foster, therefore, a strong integration with one's professional context of origin
Enrolment fee: 50 euros (educators and teachers FISM Treviso); 200 euros for outdoor
How to enrolment: send an email to: postlauream.fisppa@unipd.it

Course Facilities: Girotondo delle età Early Childhood Centre (via Pianale 34, San Pietro di Feletto, Conegliano-TV) and Zoom Platform
Teachers: Experienced trainers and lecturers in the field
Syllabus:
- Module 1: Experimenting with the outside in a design key
Formulation of possible design hypotheses that connect external and internal places and that can be proposed in one's school or nursery. It will start with an immersive experiential workshop in which observation in the situation, identification of possible stresses and reading of collected materials will provide ideas and clues for the writing of hypothetical design paths.
- Module 2: Analysis and re-reading of the design paths hypothesized in module 1
Reasoned and shared reading of the design hypotheses realized after the training experience of module 1.
Identification of possible project budgets and suggestions for in-depth analysis and research to be developed between the inside and the outside.
Proposal of tools for observation, reading and development of children's learning and research processes.
- Module 3: Experimenting with the inside in a design key
Sharing, reflection and analysis of observational and design materials. Possible and further relaunches for advancement and deepening of the children's knowledge and research processes. Vision, analysis and sharing of possible forms of documentation such as communication choices and signification of experiences between the inside and the outside.
- Module 4: Analysis and re-reading of documentary materials
Sharing and analysis of the various documentary materials developed in relation to the project experiences. Enhancement of the processes of knowledge and research that can be sustained between the inside and the outside
