About myself

Hi! I'm Sundas Hamid, a master's student in Material Science with a passion for exploring the fascinating world at the atomic and molecular level. I'm driven by the challenge of developing innovative materials that can shape a more sustainable and advanced future. Whether it's nanomaterials, smart surfaces, or green energy solutions, I'm always excited to learn, collaborate, and contribute to meaningful scientific progress.

Why did you choose the University of Padua and Materials Science degree programme? Why would you recommend it to other students?

I chose the University of Padua for its strong academic reputation, international community, and inspiring research environment. The city itself is vibrant and student-friendly, making it a great place to live and learn.
I picked the Materials Science programme because it combines physics, chemistry, and engineering to solve real-world problems. It offers both solid theoretical foundations and hands-on lab experience. I’d recommend it to anyone passionate about innovation, sustainability, and working at the forefront of science.

What are the main features of your degree programme?

The main features of the Materials Science degree programme include a strong interdisciplinary approach—combining physics, chemistry, and engineering. It offers in-depth theoretical knowledge alongside practical lab experience. The programme focuses on advanced materials, nanotechnology, and sustainable solutions, preparing students for both research and industry. It’s taught in English, with an international environment and opportunities for internships, research projects, and collaborations.

Is there any class/subject that has stood out to you so far?

Yes, one class that really stood out to me was Materials Technology. It dove into how materials behave at the nanoscale and how we can manipulate them for innovative applications—from electronics to energy storage. The combination of theory and practical case studies made it both fascinating and inspiring. It really opened my eyes to the possibilities within the field of materials science

Is there any advice you could give to prospective students when it comes to submitting their application?

My advice to prospective students is to start early and be thorough. Make sure your motivation letter clearly explains why you're interested in the programme, how your background fits, and what you hope to achieve. Highlight any relevant coursework, projects, or experiences that show your passion for materials science or related fields.
Double-check all documents for accuracy, and if possible, ask someone to review your application before submitting. Lastly, don’t hesitate to reach out to current students or Unibuddy—we’re here to help and share our experiences!

How is student life in Padua?

Student life in Padua is vibrant, welcoming, and full of opportunities. The city has a rich academic atmosphere, with students from all over the world, which makes it easy to make friends and feel at home. There are always events, cultural festivals, and university activities happening throughout the year.
Padua is also very walkable and bike-friendly, with beautiful spots like Prato della Valle and cosy cafés where you can study or relax. It’s the kind of place where you can balance academics with a good quality of life—whether it’s exploring the city, traveling around Italy, or just enjoying a spritz with friends after class.

What do you do when you’re not studying?

When I’m not studying, I love exploring Italy—from its rich history and stunning architecture to its beautiful landscapes and vibrant cities. Staying active is important to me, so I enjoy running and cycling around town. I also enjoy spending time with friends and fellow students, whether it’s at university events or just hanging out. Thanks to my Schengen visa, I can easily travel to many countries in Europe, so I make sure to explore new places whenever I get the chance!
