Dr. Catalano completed his undergraduate studies in Physics at the University of Catania and obtained his master in Physics of Complex Systems from Politecnico di Torino and Université de Paris. He was then awarded a MSCA fellowship at Institut Ruđer Bošković in Zagreb, Croatia, as part of the EU funded ITN project “MOlecular Quantum Simulations” (MOQS), while obtaining his Ph.D. from the University of Strasbourg, France, under the supervision of Prof. Fabio Franchini and Prof. Guido Pupillo. During this period he focused his research on the study of topologically frustrated spin chains, both from a fundamental and technological point of view, gaining experience in tensor network methods, many-body physics and quantum thermodynamics. This experience, combined with the strong numerical skills of the host group of Prof. Simone Montangero at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UNIPD, will be essential to pursue the objectives of his MSCA project, QUEST, which seeks to address the need for breakthroughs in the development of quantum energy devices, advancing the current state-of-the-art in the field of quantum technologies for energy storage and transfer by developing efficient numerical simulations tools for the design and characterization of many-body quantum batteries.
