Jade Eyles completed her PhD at the University of East Anglia in March 2022 in volcanic seismology. Her PhD researched the importance of accurate earthquake locations when mapping volcanic plumbing systems, by using synthetic events to compare several location methods and velocity models. This was applied to the island of Montserrat to investigate the past seismicity during the 1995 Soufriere Hills eruption. Since then, she has worked as a teaching fellow at Imperial College London and more recently as an assistant seismologist at one of the UK’s geophysical facility: SEIS-UK. In 2023 she was awarded an MSCA fellowship for the project TERRA, which looks at: ‘Tackling seismicity at Etna using Repeating sources, Relocations and Ambient noise monitoring’. The project aims to understand links between the range of seismic signals that are recorded and the resulting eruptive style at Mt Etna over the past 22 years. The variety of methods used will illuminate the relationship between seismicity and processes at depth, integral for understanding eruption styles and for hazard mitigation.
