Sport and inclusion
Regular physical activity is important for everyone, but perhaps even more so for people with visual impairments. The general benefits that concern all people who practice sports take on particular value in this case: improving coordination skills, alertness, elasticity, proprioception, the perception of one's body in space and during movement allows you to acquire certain automatisms that are also useful in everyday activities, with considerable advantages for safety and autonomy of movement.
Practicing sports also allows you to improve your health and self-esteem and promotes inclusion, overcoming barriers due to the lack or lack of information conveyed by sight.
However, children experience the difficulty of playing sports both at school and outside school, especially in those territorial contexts where there are no sports associations with the right skills or because teachers or instructors do not know how to make them carry out the activities and how to integrate them into the group, or they fear harmful situations and prefer a prudent approach, which, however, results in an exclusion with very negative physical and psychological repercussions.
For this reason, Aniridia Italiana, the association that brings together people with this rare eye disease and their families, has developed a short guide that brings together the skills of technicians and the experiences of athletes: Sport and visual impairment. Theoretical bases and practical indications for adapted motor and sports activity for the blind and visually impaired, downloadable here: http://www.aniridia.it/da-sapere/sport
It is a tool that, without claiming to be exhaustive, wants to make a useful contribution to the inclusion of people with visual impairments, in the belief that those who have talent and want to engage in competition must have the opportunity to do so without suffering the limits of their condition, and that on the other hand even those who do not have the makings of a champion must not give up carrying out significant physical activity, calibrated to one's situation and age, because the benefits are decisive for everyone's quality of life.

ASD Avengers Padua Onlus is a team of athletes with disabilities who practice powerchair hockey, i.e. electric wheelchair hockey; it is campus in Padua, is affiliated with the FIWH (Italian Wheelchair Hockey Federation) and participates in the A2 series national championship. The campus where training and home games take place is the "Duca degli Abruzzi" gym, in via Merlin 1 in Padua.
For most Avengers athletes, this is really the only sport that can be played, as they have the ability to move the joystick of the electric wheelchair and move the ball with the stick applied to the front of the wheelchair itself. For others with higher residual strength, you can use the hockey stick. In essence, this is "sport for those who thought they could not play sports".

Through the collaboration between the Student Services Office and the Department of Medicine, we aim to promote the culture of movement and physical activity among students with disabilities enrolled at the University of Padua.
The activity is configured as a personalized approach to movement, physical activity or sport that must give the student the opportunity to perceive his or her body, optimize residual abilities and make the most of them for a positive integration into the study and work environment.
The project, born from an idea of Prof. Andrea Ermolao of DIMED, in collaboration with Prof. David Sacerdoti and the Student Services – Inclusion Office, is structured in such a way as to allow each interested student to meet a dedicated physiatrist for an assessment of the person's needs and, subsequently, to participate in 8/10 meetings that can be customized in terms of time, which will take place inside the teaching gym of the Course of Study in Technical Sciences of Preventive and Adapted Motor Activity in Via Sant'Eufemia in Padua.
