Lifelong Learning Course
Package course for primary and secondary schools
Scientific Coordinator: Cecilia Poletto
Duration: 16 hours (12 face-to-face, 4 e-learning) + 9 hours of self-training
Period: at the request of the school. On request, it is possible to agree on the delivery of the course remotely, in synchronous mode, through the Zoom platform
Cost per package: 2500 euros
Goals: Design the grammar course unit in a "vertical" perspective, taking care of the methodological continuity between primary and secondary school;
Adopt, in primary school, a grammatical model consistent with modern research in linguistics;
Propose innovative strategies for teaching grammar on the basis of a concrete scientific and methodological update;
Develop a heuristic attitude towards grammatical knowledge, with analysis of authentic material;
Develop simple paths of interlinguistic comparison;
Initiate paths of potential action research;
Encourage dialogue between disciplines and between teachers of different schools;
Promote self-education in schools.
Recipients: Teachers of linguistic disciplines (Italian and modern languages) of Primary and Secondary Schools
Training methods: The participatory theoretical lesson will be followed by workshops in which teachers will be guided in the production of material that can be immediately used in teaching practice, also through short paths of autonomous design and methodological meta-reflection, in the light of a coherent theoretical framework.
Each lesson will be completed by training sessions (independently or in groups) to be carried out in e-learning mode, through the use of free multimedia platforms.
Syllabus:
MODULE 1. GRAMMAR OF MIND AND SCHOOL GRAMMARS
The module will focus on the universal mechanisms of language functioning, emphasizing the contribution of dialects to grammar teaching, with particular attention also to motivational aspects. Elements of language acquisition will be provided, in order to motivate the need for a formal approach to grammar teaching.
MODULE 2. SOUNDS, SYLLABLES AND WORDS
The module will provide the basic elements of phonetics and phonology, stimulating the use of the related tools for the design of teaching units on syllable and word analysis as primary units for sentence formation. The relationship between phonetics, phonology and spelling will also be discussed.
MODULE 3. HOW WORDS ARE MADE
The module will provide elements of formal morphology, with particular attention to the notion of "head". Didactic paths of the "word" will be proposed as a complex and structured unit, which can be manipulated and "disassembled", emphasizing in particular its value at the level of the vertical curriculum.
MODULE 4. FROM WORD TO SENTENCE: POSSIBLE PATHS
The module will provide elements of syntax teaching on a formal basis, adapting the theoretical contents to the concrete didactic use. Possible paths will be proposed for the last two years of Primary School and Lower Secondary School, in view of a fruitful connection between the school levels.
