Phantàsia

Thursday 24 September at 18:00 marks the presentation of the completed Phantàsia, a site- and context-specific installation by Caterina Morigi, spread across the paved area between Padua station and Ponte del Popolo in Padua.

Phantàsia is part of MAR, a research project carried out by the Department of Historical, Geographical and Ancient Sciences of the University of Padua and the Ufficio Progetto Giovani of the Municipality of Padua, as part of the WALC – Walking Landscapes of Urban Cultures research project, funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU.

The route is the result of a long process of exploration, in which the artist has developed the theme of urban walking as an opportunity to question the environmental context and its transformations. Drawing on the pre-modern practice of imagining fantastical creatures as the inhabitants of unknown territories, Caterina Morigi frees these representations from maps and bestiaries and brings them into the urban context with the intention of generating new connections, symbolisms and reflections relating to the theme of the other and elsewhere in those passing near the installations.

The installation concludes a collaboration with the geographers and the Museum of Geography of the University of Padua and becomes part of an evolving trail of permanent works in the public space of the station area, created by mid-career contemporary artists and launched in 2022.

After the presentation, it is possible to take part in an informal aperitif at MAC Studi d’artista (piazza De Gasperi, 13).
