The Euganean thermal heritage

For the afternoon of Wednesday 9 September, the Orto botanico di Padova is offering an in-depth meeting dedicated to the spa culture of the Colli Euganei, a heritage that intertwines biodiversity, scientific research, clinical practice, and a millenary relationship between the area and thermal waters.

The meeting is led by Nicoletta La Rocca, professor at the Department of Biology of the University of Padua, Fabrizio Caldara, Scientific Director and Head of Research and Development at the Centro Studi Termali “Pietro d’Abano”, and Chiara Destro, curator of the Museo del Termalismo Antico e del Territorio di Montegrotto Terme.

The meeting is an opportunity to explore the different dimensions of Euganean spa culture, from the characteristics of the waters and muds to scientific research, as far as spa practices and the millenary relationship with the area.

More than twenty years of research carried out at the Department of Biology of the University of Padua have made it possible to study the biodiversity of the cyanobacteria present in hydrothermal springs and Euganean muds, as well as the biomolecules they produce, contributing to the understanding of the biological properties of thermal muds.
