An international vocational course that teaches students how to communicate with mastery in two European and American languages and to understand the cultural, historical, and economic-social-political framework in which they develop. Through daily and professional use, both written and oral, students will refine metalinguistic reflection skills with confidence in the sectoral languages and specific terminologies of the chosen languages. The vocation for communication and cooperation of the course is enhanced by courses in the legal, economic, and social areas as well as advanced courses in linguistics, semiotics, or computer science. Students can plan courses that increase their skills, both theoretically and applicative, in the field of translation. Students can pursue work in international cooperation institutes, cultural institutions, as well as in diplomatic and consular representation.

Characteristics and objectives
The second-cycle degree in Modern Languages for International Communication and Cooperation (LCC) covers five main areas of competence: translation, language, literature and culture, translation technology, special languages, terminology and translation/language service provision. The course aims to provide students with a good command of two European and American languages and cultures along with the knowledge and abilities necessary to understand their cultural, historical, literary, economic, social and political contexts.
Besides their language skills, students improve their critical and research knowledge, while training for the daily, professional use of languages both in the written and oral modes to become language service providers. They receive advanced education in special languages, terminology, translation methodology, proofreading, editing and language/translation technologies. Language education focuses on translation to provide solid theoretical knowledge and practical skills in translating a wide range of texts. Core courses also cover an in-depth study of law, economics and sociology, as well as advanced courses in either linguistics, semiotics or computer science. Students can take advanced supplementary courses on the literatures pertaining to the two languages they have decided to specialise in.
Occupational opportunities
The translation/language services industry continues to grow. Globalisation and technological innovation open up new markets and create novel demands for multilingual service provision. As qualified translation/language professionals, LCC graduates will be able to take advantage of global employment opportunities. Our students go on to successful international careers in international cooperation, diplomacy, business, and cultural entrepreneurship. They join national or international companies and organisations, whether private or public, to manage their communication and interaction in multiple languages or their foreign branches and/or to provide translation services. Academic quality, innovative approaches to language and translation education grant LCC graduates access to language teaching in schools, companies and training organisations as well as to PhD studies and academic careers in languages and translation.
