Angelo Zarrella received a degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Energy Systems, from the University of Padua in 2003, with a thesis that concerned the development of a calculation tool for dynamic building simulation. Also at the same University, he did his Ph.D. in Applied Physics, discussing in March 2007 the thesis “New Developments in Applications for Low Temperature Difference Air Conditioning,” concerning different aspects of the “building-plant” system, from environmental well-being to high-efficiency air conditioning technologies. From 2007 to February 2016, he was a Research Fellow in the Departments of Applied Physics and Industrial Engineering. Since May 2020, he is Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Padua.
Since October 1, 2023, he is Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree programme Energy Engineering at the University of Padua.

His research activity is mainly concerned with the energy efficiency of the building-plant system. In particular, he is involved in modeling, analysis, and development of building envelope elements, radiant systems, energy-efficient plant systems, environmental well-being, renewable energy, and ground source heat pumps. He is member of AiCARR (Italian Association of Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration) since 2004. Since 2011 he is member of IBPSA Italia, the Italian section of IBPSA (International Building Performance Simulation Association). Since 2019, he is member of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers).
He is the author and co-author of more than 100 scientific papers published in several international journals, in the proceedings of international and national conferences.
