Mauro Masiero has a university education in Forestry and Environmental Sciences, a specialization course in Rural Development Cooperation in Developing Countries and a Ph.D. in forestry economics. He has worked as a consultant in the forestry sector for about ten years and has been the Director of the national FSC® office in Italy for 6 years. \n\nIn 2004 he started to work as an external researcher at TESAF Department (i.e., the Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry) of the University of Padova (Italy). His research activities focus on the field of forest policy and economics, including the analysis of international markets for forest products and services, the study and monitoring of illegal logging and other illegal activities in the forestry sector, the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies and tools within the forestry sector, rural development policies, and the economic assessment of ecosystem services and mechanisms for their remuneration. \n\nHe has been involved in a number of projects and initiatives in different countries, including Italy, Bangladesh, Brazil, Peru, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Côte d'Ivoire, Ecuador, Paraguay and Sudan, and worked together with many national (ISPRA, CNR) and international (CIFOR, EFI, FAO, IFAD, IILA, UNECE) organisations. In 2011 he has co-founded Etifor, a spinoff of Padova University where he holds a position as Head of the Board and Scientific Director.\n\nHe is currently Associate Professor at TESAF Department (UNIPD, Italy) and adjunct professor in Rural Appraisal at Bozen university (Italy).\nHe has been the Chairman of the Italian Association for Responsible Forest Management (FSC FSC® Italia) from 2021 to 2024.\n
