My research integrates structural geology, microtectonics and laboratory experiments to provide comprehensive models for the mechanics and transport properties of faults at multiple spatial and temporal scales. In particular, I try to understand how the physical properties of fault rocks control the evolution of tectonically active zones and how they influence the processes of fracture and earthquake nucleation.
