Benedetto Ruperti was born in Vicenza (14/10/1966) and graduated in Agricultural Sciences (110/110 cum laude) in 1994, at the University of Padova, Italy. He got his PhD degree in 1998 (Dottorato di Ricerca in “Crop Production”, 10th cycle) at the University of Padova. During this time he spent research training periods abroad through an Erasmus scholarship at the University of Nottingham (Department of Plant and Environmental Science), United Kingdom (February-July 1991), through an EU-Comett scholarship (Project Leonardo) at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB), Crete, Greece (February-May 1994) and through a grant from “Fondazione Ing. Aldo Gini” (Padova) at the University of Nottingham (Department of Plant and Environmental Science), United Kingdom (June 1996-June 1997). He carried out post-doctoral research activity at the University of Nottingham, Department of Plant and Environmental Science (from September to December 1998), through a "CNR-British Council" grant, and at the University of Padova (Faculty of Agriculture), with two post-doctoral fellowships (“Borsa di Studio di Post-Dottorato”, from January 1999 until January 2001, and “Assegno di Ricerca”, from March 2001 till November 2002). He spent a post-doctoral research period (from June 2001 until January 2002) at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIZ) of Koeln (Germany) with a Post-doctoral fellowship of the Max Planck Society. Since 4/11/2002 he has been research assistant at the Department of Crop Sciences and Agricultural Engineering (Dipartimento di Scienze Agrarie e Ambientali) of the University of Udine and he has been Marie Curie Fellow at the Institute of Biology II of the University of Freiburg, from 15/8/2003 until 15/8/2005. Since 1/4/2007 he became research assistent at the University of Padova and since 01/06/2015 he is Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental Agronomy and Crop Production (DAFNAE). His research has focussed on the study of the biochemical and molecular aspects of fruit ripening and abscission in tree species (olive, apple and grape), with particular regard to the integration of hormonal signals and to action of the stress hormone ethylene. His activity was also aimed to characterise apple fruit responses to low oxygen stress during storage in relation to ripening and ethylene’s action. He has published 67 scientific papers in peer reviewed international journals with impact factor and has an overall H-index of 28 with 2466 total citations.
