Notices

Research Area

Prof. Nestola mainly worked on extreme conditions mineralogy investigating the elastic properties and the evolution of the crystal structure under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions of the main Earth’s mantle minerals. The main techniques he used are diffraction (single-crystal and powder), Raman spectroscopy and electron microscopy. Recently, Prof. Nestola applied the same mineralogical methods to the analysis of inclusions in natural diamonds with the aim to determine the conditions of their formation. Finally, he obtained a research fund to investigate the carbon-bearing phases in Antarctic meteorites
