RESEARCH ACTIVITY
The research activity of Enrico Negro has been focused on three main topics: (i) functional materials for “low-temperature fuel cells” (e.g., polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), high-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFCs), anion-exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs) and direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs)); (ii) materials for optical gas sensors; and (iii) compound semiconductors. Since April 2005 Enrico Negro belongs to the group “CheMaMSE” (Chemistry of Materials for the Metamorphosis and Storage of Energy, https://research.dii.unipd.it/chemamse/ ). “CheMaMSE” is active in the Department of Industrial Engineering and is coordinated by Prof. Vito Di Noto.

The results of Enrico Negro’s research activity are included in 113 papers published in international journals, 7 book chapters, 9 international patent applications (3 of them were granted) and 14 Italian patent applications (8 of them were granted as patents, 1 was granted as an utility model). Enrico Negro is author or co-author of 273 contributions (including both posters and oral presentations) presented to international conferences. 10 of these contributions were published on the proceedings of the corresponding congresses. The Hirsh Index of Enrico Negro is equal to 40; his work attracted 4518 citations (SCOPUS, 30 May 2025).

SUPERVISION OF PH.D. THESIS
• Co-supervisor of the Ph.D. thesis of Soufiane Boudjelida (39th Cycle). Soufiane Boudjelida ia enrolled in the Post-Graduate Course in Materals Science and Technology. The title of the thesis is: “Development of new electrocatalysts based on platinum group and platinum-free metals for fuel cell and membrane electrolysers”. Prof. Vito Di Noto is the main supervisor of the thesis.
• Co-supervisor of the Ph.D. thesis of Gidey Bahre Desta (39th Cycle). Gidey Bahre ia enrolled in the Post-Graduate Course in Materals Science and Technology. The title of the thesis is: “Studies and Tests in Sodium Salts Secondary Batteries of Solid-State Electrolyte Materials”. Prof. Vito Di Noto is the main supervisor of the thesis.

RESEARCH PROJECTS
• Enrico Negro is the local responsible of the Research Project entitled “Materiali e componenti avanzati per celle a combustibile PEM con innovativa strutturazione multi-scala per il miglioramento di durabilità e stabilità - PERMANENT”, project funded in the framework of “PIANO NAZIONALE DI RIPRESA E RESILIENZA (PNRR).
