Name Surname: Michele Fondriest
Education:
2014 PhD in Earth Sciences – Department of Geosciences, Padua University, Padua (IT)
2014-2015 Post-doctoral Researcher - Department of Geosciences, Padua University, Padua (IT)
2014-2015 Visiting Researcher (seven months) - Department of Earth Sciences, UCL, London (UK)
2016-2018 Post-doctoral Research Associate - DEES, University of Manchester, Manchester (UK)
2019 Post-doctoral Researcher - Department of Geosciences, Padua University, Padua (IT)
2020-2022 Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Post-doctoral Research Fellow (MSCA-IF: project DAMAGE 839880) - ISTerre, UGA, Grenoble (FR)
2022-now Fix-term researcher (RTDA) - Department of Geosciences, Padua University, Padua (IT)
Current grants:
Project STIFF “Slow to Instantaneous fracture sealing by chemically-active fluids: the damage-recovery cycle in fault zones” (2022-2024)
Project REACT “Rock damage and recovery assisted by reactive fluids” (2022-2025)

My research focus is the study of the internal structure and mechanics of fault zones. I tackled this topic at first, as structural geologist, based on robust field structural surveys of exhumed fault zones and microanalytical study of natural fault rocks, and then by rock deformation experiments and near-surface seismic surveys within fault zones. I am currently active in the study of fluid rock interaction and mechanical recovery of fractured rocks assisted by mineral precipitation through innovative laboratory experiments and the study of natural fault zone rocks.
