I am a Full Professor of Industrial Bioengineering at the Department of Molecular Medicine, University of Padua, where I conduct research in the field of translational bioinformatics. My research lies at the intersection of engineering, biology, and medicine, with a particular focus on the development of computational models and data integration methods for applications in precision medicine. I develop and apply computational biology approaches to interpret multi-omics data in the areas of epigenomics, 3D genome organization, and single-cell genomics.\nMy studies aim to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying complex diseases, including cancer, immune system disorders, and neurological conditions, with the goal of identifying biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and potential personalized treatment strategies through the integration of genomic, transcriptomic, epigenetic, and proteomic data.\nI have participated in and coordinated national and international research projects funded by programs such as Horizon Europe, H2020, the European Research Council (ERC), the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC), PRIN, and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). I lead a bioinformatics unit that supports experimental and clinical research, providing data analysis services, pipeline development, and modeling tools. My research group has developed several open-source software tools and databases that are widely used internationally.\nI am the author of over 200 scientific publications, including numerous articles in leading journals in genomics, computational biology, and biomedical data science. I have been invited as a speaker at international conferences and have served on scientific and editorial boards.\nI have conducted research at international institutions and maintain collaborations with national and international universities and research centers on projects ranging from the development of predictive models for personalized medicine to the exploration of new therapeutic strategies based on integrated data analysis.\nWithin the Department, I contribute to the development of research infrastructures, training programs, and interdisciplinary initiatives that link bioengineering, genomics, and translational medicine, with the aim of supporting biomedical innovation at both national and international levels.\n

Research Area

Design and application of computational biology and bioinformatics methods to organize, analyze, compare, interpret, and visualize -omics data.\nFrom a methodological standpoint, my current research lines comprise the development of computational methods, resources and tools for i) integrative analysis of multi -omics and phenotypic data; ii) epigenomics and 3D genome; iii) computational systems biology; and iv) single cell and single cell spatial genomics.\nFrom an applicative perspective, my group support wet biologists in national and international research institutions in investigating the genomic bases of complex biological systems, with particular emphasis on onco-genomics, immunogenomics, and neurosciences.
