Open Access

Open Access is a movement that originated within the academic world to foster the sharing and growth of knowledge through free access to research results. Research works deposited in institutional repositories and published in Open Access journals are read by a wider audience and are therefore cited more often, thus increasing the author’s visibility and impact.

The Open Access movement is supported by the European Community and, in Italy, by the CRUI Commission for University Libraries.

The University of Padua promotes open access to scientific literature and was the first signatory of the Messina Declaration (the document by which Italian Universities adhered to the Berlin Declaration, the formal act marking the launch of the Open Access movement).
