Notice of public selection for admission to PhD courses for the 42nd cycle

The call for applications for admission to the 42nd cycle PhD Courses is online!

Application deadline: May 20, 2026, 1 p.m.

Deadline for sending letters of reference (if required): May 25, 2026, 1 p.m.

The selection notice, a regulatory part common to all courses, contains general information regarding the PhD, the requirements for access, how to participate in the selection and the deadlines.

For each course there is also an information sheet containing the specific information of that syllabus: the places and scholarships made available, the documents to be attached to the application, the tests in which the selection procedure is divided, subjects examined, links to the course website and reference contacts.

Also this year accommodation places are available at the "Casa dell'Assistente Prof. Virgilio Ducceschi", doctoral positions at the Galilean School of Advanced Studies and places reserved for candidates in possession of specific requirements. This year the amount of the scholarship has increased.

Once you have read the call for applications and the specific requirements of the course or courses of interest, you can apply through the https://pica.cineca.it/unipd/dottorati42 platform. The procedure is now available.

Registration instructions and forms will be made available in the coming days.

Following explicit or tacit withdrawal by successful candidates before the start of the course, any vacant places will be assigned to the next candidates in the ranking, according to the criteria set out in the Call for admission.

Should any funded places become available due to withdrawals, the following candidates may apply for such vacant places: applicants awarded a place without a scholarship who submitted their enrolment application within the prescribed deadline; applicants awarded a place without a scholarship who explicitly or implicitly declined enrolment in such a place; and eligible applicants. Those candidates who in the application form indicated that they competed exclusively for unfunded places cannot apply for vacant places with funding.

Vacant Places - Primary phase

Eligible candidates for vacant places will be notified through publication of the list of replacement candidates at the following link: PhDs XLII cycle - A.Y. 2026/27 from July 29th 2026.

Candidates are required to enrol by August 4th 2026, as provided for in Article 9 of the Call for admission.

Vacant Places – Secondary Phase

From August 25th 2026, any further available places will be published, and interested candidates must submit their applications by August 27th 2026 according to the instructions that will be provided. Candidates who have applied for vacant places will be contacted directly by the office and will have to complete their enrolment by September 1st 2026.

Successful applicants awarded a place without a scholarship who, within the prescribed deadline, explicitly or implicitly declined enrolment must also apply for a vacant place if they wish to be considered for a scholarship-funded place that becomes available.

No personal communications will be sent to the candidates.
