ERC meets MSCA: Alessandro Metlica and Marco Malvestio

Young and successful: two researchers winning top awards tell us their story

Alessandro Metlica and Marco Malvestio

Alessandro Metlica is Associate Professor at the Department of Linguistic and Literary Studies and is the supervisor of Marco Malvestio, who was granted a MSCA Global Fellowship in 2020.

They are both very young, but have a proven track record of achievements in their fields of expertise.. Alessandro, class of 1985, was awarded an ERC Starting grant in 2017 and became straightforward Associate Professor – one of the youngest in UNIPD! He also won a MIUR project dedicated to ERC Principal Investigator, the FARE Call.

Marco, class of 1991, applied to the 2019 MSCA Individual Fellowship call, just a few months after obtaining his PhD, and received the grant with an excellent score. His MSCA Global Fellowship provides for two years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (US), a secondment at the University of St Gallen (Switzerland) and one year back to UNIPD.

Alessandro’research focuses on XVI and XVII century literature, while Marco works on Italian science fiction literature: two quite different areas of interest, so why do they work together?
