Activate Internships in Italy

An internship is a period of training for students during their studies (curricular internship), for recent graduates in the 12 months following graduation (extracurricular internship) and for graduates who are unemployed (work placement/re-employment internship), in companies, public bodies and professionals. It may be compulsory or optional, as defined in the degree course regulations.

An internship may last up to 12 months for students and 6 months for recent graduates.

An internship involves three subjects: the trainee, the promoter (the University of Padua) and the host, i.e. the company or organisation. The university tutor, i.e. a lecturer at the University, and the company tutor (not necessarily the legal representative), who guide and follow the trainee in carrying out the task, are also part of the training process.

  Publishing an internship offer

  • Register your company details (only the first time you use the service) using the appropriate form
  • Wait for the email to validate your registration
  • Use your username and password to access the reserved area
  • Enter the information requested in the form

The Office will evaluate the offer in order to verify its compliance with the University's academic profiles; if positive, it will be published. Career Service is also available to analyse the needs of the company and define the profile sought.

The offers received will remain visible on the website for a maximum period of three months, which may be extended.

Spontaneous applications will be assessed and notified to the company if they meet the requirements. Companies can consult the curricula in their reserved area. In case of insufficient or unsuitable applications, the service will contact suitable profiles and extend the search to all the CVs in the database.

On request, the office will firstly interview candidates in order to select a shortlist of suitable CVs for the company.

  Activating an internship with students

An agreement and a training project are required to start an internship. Insurance cover for third-party liability and accidents at work with Inail is provided by the University.

AGREEMENT: it establishes a collaboration relationship thanks to which a company/body is entitled to host trainees. It is drawn up only on the occasion of the first hosted internship and establishes a "framework" agreement between the University and the host company. It must be signed by the legal representative and is valid for five years.

The digitally signed agreement must be sent by email to:

amministrazione.centrale@pec.unipd.it.

All entities, except public administrations, may alternatively send the agreement by regular mail, in duplicate, to the address:

University of Padua
Career Service Office, Palazzo Storione,
Riviera Tito Livio 6 - 35123 Padova

Agreement activation procedures:

- register your company details (only the first time you use the service) by using the appropriate form
- wait for the email to validate your registration

TRAINING PROJECT:  The duration, contents and activities to be carried out during the internship are defined jointly by the host organisation, the tutor and the trainee. It is drawn up for each hosted internship and can be signed either by the legal representative or by the company tutor.

Students must complete the training project in their private area (see the page dedicated to student information)

  Activating an internship with graduates

An agreement, a training project and a general training course on safety in the workplace are required to start an internship.

Internship for graduates based in Veneto: to host a graduate as a trainee in one of the company's operating sites in Veneto, the forms can be downloaded from this page (Veneto graduates' agreement and Veneto graduates' training project).

Internships for graduates based in Italy but outside Veneto: to host a graduate as an intern outside the Veneto region it is necessary to contact the office well in advance, indicating the region of the operational headquarters, in order to receive the correct documentation.

Delivery and timing

At least 15 days before the start date, a single copy of the training project must be sent or delivered to the Career Service Office, which will then send it countersigned to the host organisation.

The digitally signed agreement must be sent by email to the following address: amministrazione.centrale@pec.unipd.it.

All organisations, except public administrations, may alternatively send the agreement by normal mail, in duplicate, to the address:

University of Padua
Career Service Office, Palazzo Storione,
Riviera Tito Livio 6 - 35123 Padua

  Notifying the job centre

Only if the trainee is a recent graduate (extracurricular traineeship) or a graduate (work placement/reintegration traineeship) the company must electronically notify the start of the traineeship, as well as any extension or interruption, within 24 hours of the day before.
