Simone Carmignato is Full Professor of Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Padova. He graduated with highest honours (110/110 cum laude) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Padova and obtained a PhD in Industrial Engineering through joint supervision with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He gained international experience through study and research stays at leading institutions, including Boston University and the German National Metrology Institute (PTB), and served as a visiting professor at DTU. His research focuses on precision engineering, advanced and sustainable manufacturing, dimensional metrology, and computed tomography. He has coordinated research projects and industrial collaborations in these fields and teaches Production Technologies, Additive Manufacturing, and Quality and Metrology in Manufacturing. He has supervised over 100 Master's students and more than 20 PhD candidates in Engineering and serves on the Advisory Board of the University of Padova Language Centre. He has authored books, patents, and more than 300 international scientific publications and has served as chair, organiser, scientific committee member, and keynote speaker at national and international conferences. He is also a member of the editorial boards of international scientific journals.
He is a CIRP Fellow and a member of EUSPEN, IMEKO, ISO/TC 213/WG 10, and AITEM. His work has been recognised with several national and international awards, including the CIRP Taylor Medal, the AITEM Young Researcher Award, and the Best Teacher Award in Management Engineering at the University of Padova
